This workshop will present the ins and outs of submitting work for publication to print and online journals. Topics include how to set up Submittable account, how to seek out and vet journals and magazines, how to prepare a cover letter, as well as how to put together a package of poems.
Workshop facilitiators:
Dennis Hinrichsen has won seven open competitions for full-length collections of poetry and two open competitions for chapbooks. His 11th full-length collection, Dominion + Selected Poems, will be out and available at Robin Books in October. From 2017-2019 he served as the inaugural Lansing Poet Laureate.
Sarah Carson is the author of poems, essays, and short stories that have appeared in numerous publications, including The Los Angeles Review, Prairie Schooner, The Rumpus, and the Slowdown. The recipient of fellowships and awards from Tin House, the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing, Copper Nickel and the Illinois Arts Council, her most recent collection of poetry is How to Baptize a Child in Flint, Michigan, winner of the 2021 Lexi Rudnitsky Editors' Prize from Persea Books.
