About The Event

Saturday, October 28th from 1-3PM at The Robin Books!

Let Emily Schwinghamer of Coven Bound Books illuminate the path  to binding your very own book!  Students will learn an accessible, low-equipment, and glue-free method called the Coptic stitch, which has  been serving humanity for nearly a millennium.  Though you will wield a  needle and thread, no sewing or other fibromancy experience is  necessary, both technique and teacher are highly beginner friendly.

You  may create a blank book filled with nothing but potential, or bring  your own writing from the digital realm into the physical.  The look of  the covers is also subject solely to your vision.  Registration grants  you a spot in the class, a set of precut blank covers, thorough instructions on how to cover your covers in decorative paper (if you  choose, they will serve just as well naked), and an explanation of how to print PDF documents in a format suitable for this binding approach.  All materials needed the day of class will be provided, just bring your  covers, your pages, and yourself.  Registration and kits will be  available at The Robin Books beginning Friday, September 15th.

Emily Schwinghamer began bookbinding around five years ago as a way to  reclaim materials, assert agency over purchases and consumption, and  interface more deeply with the profound power of books.  She uses almost  entirely salvaged materials in the books she sells under Coven Bound,  and feels immense satisfaction at giving once-doomed covers the chance  to hold something new.  Emily is an aggressive proponent of journaling  in all its forms.  She is an experienced cunning-work educator whose  greatest goal is to empower others to create for themselves the world  they want to live in, one item at a time.
